30-year TIPS Auction
The US Department of Treasury issues Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) since 1997. TIPS offer investors a hedge against inflation, as the principal of this security increases with rising inflation and decreases with deflation. The US Department of Treasury auctions these securities on regularly scheduled events. Competitive bids at single-price auctions determine the interest rate paid on each issue, which is fixed. Rising interest rates on TIPS usually provide bullish signs on the US Dollar and vice-versa, lowering rates paid for these securities usually hint at a USD bearish trend.
